Peach Pan Dowdy

This one is a recipe from my maternal grandmother, and is a family favorite. It’s perfect with vanilla ice cream and ripe peaches!


INGREDIENTS

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup white (granulated) sugar

1/2 cup flour

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

3-4 cups (approximately) fresh peaches, peeled and sliced

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 450F.

Mix together the first four ingredients until crumbly. Add cinnamon and nutmeg and mix well.

Cover the bottom of a pie plate with this mixture. Cover that with a layer of peaches. Add another layer of mixture. Add another layer of peaches and a final layer of mixture. (You will have 3 layers of mixture and 2 layers of peaches.)

Bake at 450F until the top is brown, 20-30 minutes.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, heavy cream or milk, or plain. Yummy!
