About Me

Last Updated: August 6th, 2006

I'm a person whose laughter and smiles far outweigh my sour moments. I have an "ooh, shiny!" kind of delight in the world, which can sometimes bite me in the ass, and which I wouldn't trade away for anything despite the pitfalls. I live rooted firmly in my senses, feeling deeply my pleasures and pains alike. I take satisfaction and warmth from my relationships with friends and family, and I am the kind of person who cannot be happy without these people in my life. I am also the kind of person who will never be happy unless there is at least one cat in my household, preferably more. I have been known to act out particular details of the feminine stereotype, but I do not believe I am anything like a "typical" woman.

I prize honesty over saving my own feelings, deep and compassionate communication with friends and lovers, self awareness, empathy and compassion, emotional flexibility, the mutability of self and the ability to change self through will alone, responsibility for my own emotions, and integrity. I am most interested in surrounding myself with friends and lovers who can deliver these things in kind, who challenge my limits and world view, and who can share in my delight of life and love.

I am married, and it isn't what could be termed a conventional relationship. It works for us pretty well. We hope it works out well for our kids, too.

I am around 30 years old, and I have worked in Silicon Valley for most of the last decade. I've been at an ISP, a Linux startup that experienced a huge bubble, an earth-conscious web company, a medium-sized software company, and a bona-fide internet giant. I have experienced the boom and the bust of the valley, and am fortunate enough to still be here. The Bay Area is home, and I love my company.

Currently, I have blue and black hair. Though I started out life as a blonde, my hair has grown darker over the years. It's been black, red, red and black, and lavender (when the current blue fades).

Most recently, I have been known as the Crazy Cat Lady. A local cat has adopted the underneath of our house as her home, and she has had five litters over the space of two years. In the summer of 2006, we finally managed to catch her and take her to the vet. No more kittens.

Out of the fourteen kittens born in our back yard, we were able to find homes for eight of them. I consider that a job well done.

I have a lot of hobbies, but the few I always come back to are photography, and knitting. I have also been known to write, draw, sew, bead jewelry, crochet, decoupage, paint and create new content or tools for my website. Baking and cooking are relaxing activities for me, and I am known for having no concept of the term "modest spread" when it comes to entertaining friends.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a world traveler. I have only made it out of North America once, but here's a few of the places I'd like to go.

  • Brittish Isles: All over
  • Italy: Umbria, Tuscany, Florence, Rome
  • Germany: Runkel, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich
  • Egypt: Cairo, Valley of the Kings, Alexandria, Karnak, Giza
  • France: Paris
  • Turkey
  • Greece
  • Japan

December of 2005, I made finally made it to London.
